Conversation

It seems like here in America as well as around the world that people are dissatisfied with their own lives. Matter of fact their lives seem to have become so boring and mundane that the majority has become interested in someone else's life. This is evident in the number of talk shows and Hollywood reports plus the presidential scandal. It would appear that there is nothing better to do than to talk gossip or to tune in to gossip. Even some of our most beloved radio host have changed their character and have been pulled into gutter talking.

We as born again, blood bought, sealed by the Spirit believers and followers of Christ who imitate him in our daily lives by picking up our cross and following him should be different!

1 Peter 4:11 "If any many speak, let him speak as the oracles of God."

Ephesians 5:12 "For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret."

(This means that it is a disgrace even to make mention or refer to folks described in vs 3 as whoremongers, unclean person, the covetous and/or idolater. In vs 7 it warns, "Be ye not therefore partakers with them."

2 Peter 3:11 "Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt away with fervent heat?"

Philippians 3:20 "For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ."

Our conversations, manner of speech, the subjects we talk about all should fall under the category of holiness. We should not be interested in dirty laundry hot off the press.

Matthew 15:11 "It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man."

Proverbs 12:18 "There is that speaketh like the piercing of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health."

Proverbs 24:1-2 "Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them. For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief."

Colossians 4:6 "Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know, how ye ought to answer every man."

We are warned not to even associate with those who gossip. Proverbs 20:19 "He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips."

Study on these things and consider what you as a Christian listens to and the types of conversations you entertain. Other scriptures are Romans 3:13, James 3:6, Proverbs 13:3, 1 Peter 3:10.

1 Peter 4:4 "They think it strange because you do not run with them." In other words when you stand firm in your belief and Christian convictions others will wonder why you are not participating and have no interest in their gossip or their off color jokes and language. Do not feel as though you should, let your light shine. Your interest should be in godly things.

The bible goes on to say: 1 Peter 4:18 "And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly sinner appear?"

If our minds are steadfast upon God renewed by his Spirit then our thoughts should remain clean. If we seek to please God then we will want our minds fixed upon heavenly things.

God is much more interesting and fulfilling than the trash this world speaks about. Gather your thoughts and seek God's counsel.

In Christ Jesus,

Dale Thompson
